Free Scientific Graph Maker with Error Bars

Plot repeated measurements, summary statistics or XY values with explicit error-bar meaning.

A scientific graph maker turns experimental observations or summary values into labeled graphs. Plot repeated measurements, summary statistics or XY values with explicit error-bar meaning. Raw repeats grouped by series and x. Summary mean, n and sample SD. XY pairs with optional endpoints.

Experimental Graphs and Error Bars

Raw repeats grouped by series and x. Summary mean, n and sample SD. XY pairs with optional endpoints.

Start from the experimental data you have

Choose repeated raw measurements, summary values or XY pairs before pasting the data. Named series keep experimental conditions separate, while the selected mode determines whether the tool computes sample summaries or plots the values already supplied.

  • Summary mean, n and sample SD
  • XY pairs with optional endpoints

Choose the meaning of error bars

Show sample SD, SEM, a two-sided 95% Student-t confidence interval or user-supplied endpoints. A single observation has no estimated sample uncertainty; repeated identical observations can have genuine zero spread. The selected meaning stays explicit in the graph controls.

  • SD uses sample variance
  • SEM and Student-t 95% CI
  • Explicit supplied error endpoints
Choose the meaning of error bars

Present the experiment clearly

Choose scatter, line, bar or grouped presentation to match the experimental comparison. Label axes and series, and use logarithmic axes only for positive plotted values and error endpoints so the visible scale matches the data being represented.

  • Named experimental series
  • Scatter, line and bar choices
  • Validated logarithmic scales
Present the experiment clearly

Keep the graph and data together

Export SVG or PNG for the figure and CSV for its plotted values. Save project JSON to retain the data mode, error interpretation and presentation settings when another experiment or collaborator needs the same graph configuration.

How to Plot Your Values

Select the format matching your experimental material.

  1. Choose raw, summary or XY input

Select the format matching your experimental material. Repeated observations use series, x and value columns; summary data supplies mean, n and sample SD; XY input supplies the coordinates to plot.

  2. Paste and label the data

Paste the CSV in the displayed format and set the axis or series labels. The tool groups raw repeats and calculates the chosen summaries, or preserves the supplied summary and XY values.

  3. Set the graph and uncertainty

Choose scatter, line, bar or grouped presentation and the meaning of error bars. Select SD, SEM, Student-t confidence intervals or supplied endpoints to match the quantity you want to communicate.

  4. Download the experimental figure

Export SVG or PNG with the current labels and error presentation. Download the plotted CSV or save the project JSON to keep the data semantics and graph settings available for reuse.

Graphs for Experimental Work

Paste repeated observations for each experimental condition and x value.

Summarize repeated laboratory measurements

Paste repeated observations for each experimental condition and x value. The graph can display means and a chosen measure of uncertainty, connecting the visible comparison with the actual replicate data.

Present an existing summary table

Use mean, sample size and sample SD from a prepared results table. The graph translates those quantities into a figure while preserving the difference between spread and uncertainty of the mean.

Draw an experimental XY relationship

Plot supplied x and y values as points or a connected line. Named series can distinguish experimental conditions, and explicit endpoint columns carry an existing uncertainty interval into the figure.

Compare grouped experimental conditions

Use grouped presentation when several named series share x positions. A consistent series key and error-bar meaning make the experimental conditions readable in a report or laboratory meeting.

Explain uncertainty in a methods class

Compare SD, SEM and a Student-t confidence interval using the same repeated observations. Keeping the underlying data fixed makes the difference between the error summaries visible.

Share a reproducible figure package

Send a collaborator the SVG, plotted-value CSV and saved JSON. The graph presentation, input format and uncertainty interpretation can be reopened together rather than inferred from an image alone.

How Researchers Use SciFig

The scientific graph maker gave our meeting a figure directly from repeated measurements. I grouped the observations by series and x value, then chose SEM for the error bars. Saving the project kept that interpretation with the input data, while the plotted CSV gave colleagues the values behind the exported SVG.
