figure checker
A figure checker inspects measurable image properties before publication or printing.
Check a PNG, JPEG or WebP in your browser before placing it in a manuscript, thesis or poster. The figure checker reads pixel dimensions and compares effective resolution with the target at your chosen print width. It also reports the image properties the tool can actually inspect, including transparency where available. Each result separates measured values from unknown properties. Keep the report with your export and compare the measurements with the current requirements of the publication you are preparing.

The figure checker combines these steps in one workflow.
Choose a local image to read its width and height without sending it to a server.
Set the intended physical width and target DPI; the same pixels have a different effective DPI at another width.
Read the format and transparency result the browser can determine. Unsupported properties remain unknown.
Save the measured values and settings with your figure so the check can be repeated after another export.
Select an image, set the print width and DPI target, review the measurements and save the JSON report.

Explore this exampleThe manuscript figures came from several different export workflows. I used the figure checker to compare pixel dimensions and effective DPI at the intended print widths. Keeping the JSON reports with the files made the handover more organized, because I could point to a measured resolution instead of simply saying an image looked soft.
