Scholars Program Rules

Important Notice

Scholars Program credits are platform-only — they can only be used to generate figures on SciFig.ai and cannot be converted to cash, gift cards, or any other form of value.

Per our Terms of Service, free-plan output is for non-commercial evaluation only. If your content is published in academic outlets, journal articles, or other public-facing material, please upgrade to any paid plan before submission. Citation Track requires a paid plan; Institutional and Community Tracks do not.

How It Works

  1. Use SciFig to create at least one figure (account must be registered ≥ 7 days).
  2. Share publicly on a qualifying platform with a clickable link to SciFig.
  3. Submit an application at /scholars — choose a track, paste your URL, and provide details.
  4. Get reviewed within 2–5 business days. Approved applications receive credits automatically.

Rewards by Track

Each track has a single reward amount — no sub-tiers, no surprises.

  • Citation Track — Standard Pack ($100 value · 6,500 credits) · one-time · permanent validity
  • Institutional Track1,000 credits / month × 4 months = 4,000 credits total · 365-day validity per disbursement
  • Community Track1,000 credits / month × 2 months = 2,000 credits total · 365-day validity per disbursement

Eligibility

  • Account exists: registered SciFig account with verified email
  • Account active: registered ≥ 7 days and at least 1 successful figure generation
  • Citation Track only: must be a current paid user (subscription or active Credit Pack)
  • Institutional Track only: must verify ownership of an institutional email (.edu / .ac.* / .edu.cn / .ethz.ch etc.)
  • All tracks: content must be publicly accessible, Google-indexable, contain a clickable link to SciFig, and mention SciFig by name

Lifetime Limits

  • Citation Track: up to 3 applications lifetime — each based on a different publication
  • Institutional Track: up to 2 applications lifetime — typically one institutional page per applicant
  • Community Track: up to 3 applications lifetime — based on different content
  • URL & domain fairness: each URL can only be claimed once across the platform. Multiple applications on the same domain may be subject to review to ensure fair participation and to prevent abuse.

Fair Play Policy

Prohibited Behavior

We work hard to keep the program fair for genuine contributors. The following are not accepted:

  • AI-generated content without meaningful human authorship
  • Template / boilerplate content recycled across submissions
  • Fake authorship — submitting work that isn't yours
  • Multi-account submissions designed to bypass lifetime caps
  • Content removed shortly after credits are granted (we monitor for 7+ days post-disbursement)
  • Citations in predatory journals (Beall's List) or other low-credibility venues

How We Detect Issues

We use a combination of automated checks (URL reachability, link verification, content similarity, domain reputation) and human review by the SciFig team. For monthly tracks, link health is checked weekly — if a link is unreachable for 7+ consecutive days, remaining disbursements are cancelled.

Consequences

Confirmed fraud results in:

  • Cancellation of any pending or future disbursements for the application
  • Account flag preventing further Scholars Program applications
  • Possible account suspension for severe or repeated violations
  • Already-granted credits are not clawed back — we honor the credits you've earned even when revoking future rewards

Appeals

If you believe a decision was made in error, you can submit a one-time appeal through the application detail page. Appeals are reviewed within 5 business days. Decisions on appeals are final.
