Body at 22 pt is below the 24 pt figure quoted in most poster guides — deliberately, because that figure assumes a 1 meter viewing distance and an A2 board is read from roughly half that.

Is an A2 poster big enough for a conference?

Usually not for a main conference session, where A0 or 36 x 48 in is standard and an A2 poster pinned to an A0 board looks undersized. A2 is the right size when the instructions say A2, for departmental poster days, student showcases, and internal symposia. Check the acceptance email before printing.

Research poster layout for A2: Classic, Four column and Spotlight

Classic — the default
Three columns with RESULTS given the widest one. On A2 this is the safest choice: it keeps the reading order obvious when columns are narrow, and it gives the finding the only panel wide enough to show a figure at a useful size. Pick this unless you have a reason not to.
Four column — for text-heavy work
Four even columns across the board. It fits more sections, but on A2 each column is about 3.5 in wide, so figures land small and text runs narrow. Use it when you genuinely have several sub-studies to show and no single figure carries the argument.
Spotlight — one hero figure
A #betterposter-style board: one large central finding with supporting detail at the sides. This is the layout A2 suits best — a small board read from close up rewards one clear result over six competing panels.
