An A2 academic poster template is a PowerPoint file already set to 420 x 594 mm — a quarter of an A0 sheet.
An A2 academic poster template is a PowerPoint file already set to 420 x 594 mm — half an A1 sheet and a quarter of an A0. It is the size used for departmental poster days, student showcases and corridor displays, where posters are read from about half a meter rather than across a hall. These files are not shrunk A1 files: at a quarter of A0's area, proportional scaling gives a title that eats a fifth of the board, so the type scale is recomputed for A2.
How to make an A2 poster from a template

Research poster layout for A2: Classic, Four column and Spotlight
Every file ships with one layout already applied — you are picking a layout by picking a file, not deleting slides.
On a board this size the choice matters more than it does on A0, because there is a quarter of the area to spend.
Classic — the default
Three columns with RESULTS given the widest one. On A2 this is the safest choice: it keeps the reading order obvious when columns are narrow, and it gives the finding the only panel wide enough to show a figure at a useful size. Pick this unless you have a reason not to.
Four column — for text-heavy work
Four even columns across the board. It fits more sections, but on A2 each column is about 3.5 in wide, so figures land small and text runs narrow. Use it when you genuinely have several sub-studies to show and no single figure carries the argument.
Spotlight — one hero figure
A #betterposter-style board: one large central finding with supporting detail at the sides. This is the layout A2 suits best — a small board read from close up rewards one clear result over six competing panels.

A2 poster size vs A1: which board to use
Use A2 when the instructions say A2 or the poster is for an internal event.
- Follow the conference instruction first — it overrides everything below.
- A2 suits departmental poster days, student showcases, corridor displays, and internal symposia.
- A1 is the floor at most conferences; A2 on an A1 or A0 board reads as undersized from the aisle.
- A2 is the largest size that prints on many campus printers, which is why it is the practical choice for a poster you need tomorrow.
- The A series shares proportions, so an A2 layout re-canvases to A1 or A0 cleanly. Change the type scale when you do — that is the part scaling gets wrong.
